SEA-TVET Workshop on Integrating Digital Learning and Entrepreneurship in Hospitality and Tourism

The SEAMEO Secretariat in collaboration with the SEAMEO Regional Open Learning Education Centre (SEAMEO SEAMOLEC) and the Technical and Vocational High School Malang (SMKN 2 Malang) organised a SEA-TVET Workshop on Integrating Entrepreneurship and Digital Learning in Hospitality and Tourism on 14 – 15 December 2016 at SMKN 2 Malang, Malang, Indonesia.

This workshop was conducted in response to the regional policy directions by the 2nd SEA-TVET High Officials Meeting, in Bali - May 2016, to promote quality and standard of TVET through developing and sharing innovative teaching and learning practices for improving students’ global competitiveness.

The workshop aimed to: 1) discuss on curriculum and skills development for TVET students in the areas of Hospitality and Tourism; 2) embrace entrepreneurship, creative skills, and digital learning in teaching and learning practices; 3) establish collaboration among the TVET institutions for improving teaching and learning practices of Hospitality and Tourism; and 4) develop an Education Hotel (EDOTEL) Network among TVET institutions who own Edotel/Hotel/Hostel at the institution.

Teachers and Students Activities


Several activities had been conducted during the workshop held including observed the digital class implementation in SMKN 2 Malang; signing the cooperation among schools; learning to integrate the entrepreneurship in student activities at SMA Selamat Pagi Indonesia; products presentation produced by students of SMA Selamat Pagi Indonesia; and group discussion to develop the action plan among the schools.

Sharing Sessions

In sharing session there were Mr Bagus Gunawan, Principal of SMKN 2 Malang that shared the Digital Class implementation at his school, moreover there was a presentation from Ms Mercya Soesanto, Component Manager Education & Training, Swiss Contact WISATA, Bali related to the Strategies to Develop the Hospitality and Tourism Network. During the visitation programme, there was also a student presentation on how to manage the hotel at SMA Selamat Pagi Indonesia.

With the participation of approximately 40 School Principals/Directors and Heads of the Programme/Academic Affairs on Hospitality and Tourism, the EDOTEL (Education Hotel) Network was agreed to establish among the participating schools/colleges. Besides, the action plan to integrate the digital learning and entrepreneurship in teaching and learning of hospitality and tourism was discussed and planned during the workshop.
